REFUGEE

Akriti Singh

Class IX

Allen House Public School, Ghaziabad

At dawn came in sinister shadows
Suddenly the world went pitch black
Not a soul anywhere, for there was an attack,

Forced out of our homes
Moved into a barren land
In the middle of nowhere we now stand.

The Sun earlier a friend, turned into a foe
Oh, how mighty it was, the Earth
surrendered and the wind refused to blow.

Walked and walked just to reach a strange looking place
Filled with strange creatures
looking at us with dismay.

Confused, asked mother where we stood
In response received a kind smile
But the look in her eyes I clearly understood.

Days had passed since I last ate
Hunger stirring inside of me
A native came with bread

I was filled with glee
She walked away to her house
Whilst we were out.

Soon struck the realization
No land now was ours and we belonged to no land
We were to walk a path which no step had trodden black.
